My name is Umair Salam and this is my home on the world wide web. I am a software developer specializing in SAP ABAP Development. ABAP stands for Advanced Business Application Programming and it is a proprietary programming language by the German software company. My focus is in SAP's FI/CO (Finance and Controlling) modules. I have some experience working in the HR module as well. My journey into SAP has been a wild ride. I did Web Application development which led to developing for the SAP NetWeaver Portal, hence my entry into SAP and the wonderful world of ABAP. In the words of someone famous, I wadn't born'd here, but I got here as soon as I could.

I have also worked with Microsoft .Net (C# and VB.NET) and J2EE particularly within SAP NetWeaver Portal, Microsoft SharePoint and OpenText LiveLink. You can read some of the articles I write for the SAP Developer Network (SDN) and Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) here.

I love to read. You can see a list of the books I am reading on this site. I'm always on the lookout for a good book to read so if you've got a recommendation or two, do write to me. I don't have any particular favorites: I enjoy all good authors and as long as the writing is good, I'll read any genre, fiction or non-fiction.

I also love to write, but have yet to embark upon my first novel. I know, I shouldn't think about it, just start writing. For now, I content myself by writing in my art, science & technology blog.

I'm an amateur photographer. You can see some of my photos in the gallery. I have a small collection of digital photos, mostly from places around Ontario, Calgary and from some of our trips/vacations.

I also love to cook. You can check out some photos of work in the gallery.
