Looking through some old files on my PC’s HD I came across this:

As you may recall, I’ve got a brand new HD on my PC, with a new OS installation I’ve been quite pleased with the results until this evening when IE started acting up. Everytime I’d click on a link that’s supposed to open a new window (like this) IE would freeze. Not only that, pretty much nothing would respond for a couple of minutes. How frigging annoying is that?! Upon Google searching my problem, I found an article on TechNet via a post on Experts-Exchange about this very problem. I tried the fix and it worked! I thought I’d share the fix with you in case you’ve run into the same problem!

To resolve this problem in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:
Quit all programs that are running.
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
When you receive the “DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded” message, click OK.
If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):
Shdocvw.dll
Msjava.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll
Shell32.dll (Windows XP and Windows 2000 only)

Speaking of IE and problems related to opening new windows, have you ever run into a problem with IE such that when you open a new window, the Status Bar is missing from the new window?! That was pretty annoying until I found a solution posted on ScriptyGoddess.com as follows:

With (only one) IE open, click View and select: Status Bar.
Hold down the Ctrl key and click the close button (upper right).
Open Windows Explorer, click View and select: Status Bar
Click Tools > Folder Options > View tab
Click the “Apply to all folders” button.

With that the father went to the telephone an dialed a number at
random. To the man who answered the phone, he said, “Hello, is
Melvin there?”

don’t you learn to look up numbers before you dial them?”

“See,” said the father to his daughter. “That man was not a bit
happy with our call. He was probably very busy with something
and we annoyed him. Now watch….”

The father dialed the number again. “Hello, is Melvin there?”
asked the father.

“Now look here!” came the heated reply. “You just called this
number and I told you that there is no Melvin here! You’ve got a
lot of nerve calling again!” The receiver slammed down hard.

The father turned to his daughter and said, “You see, that was
anger. Now I’ll show you what exasperation means.”

He dialed the same number, and when a violent voice roared,
“Hello!”

The father calmly said, “Hello, this is Melvin. Have there been
any calls for me?”
