Adobe acquires Macromedia

Although not as high profile an acquisition as the one of PeopleSoft by Oracle, the Adobe/Macromedia story will impact a lot of people, I imagine. Two of my favorite companies became one recently. Adobe makes my favorite Photoshop and Macromedia makes my favorite Flash and Dreamweaver. Another popular product came under Adobe’s care is ColdFusion, originally created by Allaire (I think – its been so long!). I think Adobe will enhance Macromedia products even more than they already are.

Listening to SangeetRadio

Comments Off

SangeetRadio rocks! I listen to it quite regularly now, via their web site. I called into their interactive talkshow about raising kids in North America vs. back home in Pakistan…It was fun ;)

I wrote about Sangeet Radio in an entry a couple of years ago. Read it here.

The year in retrospect

Comments Off

The year is coming to an end. There’s still a half a month left in 2005, but its not too early to take a moment to take inventory of accomplishments vs. wasted time. Alhamdulillah, this year has been better than some of the previous ones. We moved to Calgary almost a year ago! Can’t hardly believe its been that long! It has been a pleasant experience, alhamdulillah! The atmosphere (I didn’t say weather) is wonderful. I wish I’d done some things differently too. I wish that I’d planned earlier to go for the Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca). I’ve been procrastinating for a few years now. InshaAllah, next Hajj, ameen! In other developments, I’ve jump started Quraan Study and have recently finished Surah Al-Fatihah, Al-Baqarah and Aal-Imran (the first, second and third chapters from the Quraan), alhamdulillah.

SalamBazar Update

The new SalamBazar four distint areas of content, which was a little all over the place before. Here’s a summary:

I’ve consolidated the blogs into my insomnia – which you’re reading right now, sadia’s artmania – which is not updated often, and my urdu blog – which is also the first urdu blog on the web!
I’ve also unified the studies section where all the material for studying the Quraan is located. It consists of five resources which are as follows:

  • quraan study – my attempt at a systematic study of the quraan
  •

  • scanned quraan – scanned images of the entire quraan!
  •

  • the message of the quraan- translation and explanation of the quraan by muhammad asad - in progress
  •

  • al quraan- translation of the Quraan, verse by verse, in english (3 translators) and urdu, along with original arabic
  •

  • arabic class notes- notes from our own arabic arabic class – needs to be re-started

I’m planning on adding some more content, once the current content is somewhat completed, particularly the books of ahadith and sunan (sahih bukhari & muslim as well as ibn-majah, abu-daud and malik’s mutawwa) and a study of ar-raheeq al-makhtum (the sealed nectar), which is a biography of the prophet muhammad, s.a.w. InshaAllah!
The other content is the arts, where sadia’s art work is displayed in her new art gallery and sold via her store.
The rest of the content is generic such as the projects – which is supposed to be my development projects portfolio, in need of updating and the photoalbum – which has some recent photos!
