Listening to Books

Reading is fun. No doubt about it. Some literature is enhanced even further when you actually listen to it rather than read it. I remember listening to Mario Puzo‘s The Godfather last year on my Zen. I’d read the book several years ago and enjoyed it tremendously. I’d also watched the Godfather Trilogy and enjoyed those as well, although not as much as the book itself. However, the best experience of all was when I listened to audio book being read by professionals, with NY-Italian accents. It seemed to bring the best of both literature and entertainment, that neither the book nor the movies could capture. I’m listening to the Stationary Bike by Stephen King these days and its scaring the mess out of me. I’ve also checked out Scribd.com‘s text-to-speech rendering of some articles and it is out-of-this-world! I just downloaded George Orwell‘s 1984 from Scribd as an MP3 file and its pretty remarkable. The robotic British female voice is just perfect for 1984: ads a chilling dimension to the narration. You should check it out.
