Appendix ain’t useless

Scientists are just beginning to understand the use of the often removed appendix, deemed for a long time as a useless organ in humans. Apparently the appendix is a good safehouse for useful bacteria. When a deadly disease strikes such as cholera, it can wipe out the millions of bacteria in the gut that human beings need to survive. The appendix becomes vital in these cases and functions to reboot the system and repopulate the bacteria in our system. I just listened to a gut wrenching conversation about the millions of bacteria in our guts, so many are they that they outnumber our own cells! Someone was quoted as saying that human beings are infact mechanisms for colonies of bacteria. Puts things in perspective doesn’t it? Listen to the conversation here.

Mac OS X Leapord Release

Apple released their latest (and greatest) operating system, OS X Leapord. I can hardly wait to get a Mac. I’ve been dreaming about it since last year. I watched a guided tour on the Apple web site. It looks incredibly slick and irresistable. Read the TechCrunch review. A MacBook Pro is about US$2500. Gotta start saving up for it!

Spot the One that’s Different

Amidst a row of burned houses on either side, check out the unburned lucky house. Makes you wonder whether the people who owned this house were just randomly lucky or if they did or didn’t do something.
