Apple, Technology Apple, Canada, iPhone No Comments
I heard about this on the radio this morning: the iPhone is finally coming to Canada. The news stories are abundant but no no date or price or anything else has been announced yet. Roegers is presumably the lucky carrier in Canada (although a search on their web site revealed nothing). Cellular service is still kind of costly in this country. The last I checked, the data plans, would cost 45 to 60 bucks a month (for a Blackberry or a smart phone with email and web access). That’s a bit too steep for most people, I think. There is no reason to assume the iPhone plans to be any cheaper than this. If anything, they’d be more expensive. So it seems like it’ll be a while before average Canucks are seen sporting an iPhone. But still, its a pretty hot looking phone.

Apple, Linux, Microsoft, Technology Apple 2 Comments
Wubi is a Windows based installer for Ubuntu Linux Operating System as an application. I experimented with Ubuntu last year using a secondary Desktop PC. Didn’t really work for me as a useful setup since it was not practical to work off of two computers. It was good for experimentation but not very effective as a productivity enhancer, which I initially thought it would become. As a result, I got rid of it after it sat idle for a few months. A dual boot solution would definitely not work for me either. Who wants to reboot their PC just to use a different OS? That’s where Wubi comes in. Its supposed to install Ubuntu on Windows and treat it like an application. That’s what I’m talking about. Wubi should prove to be the perfect Linux solution for a windows user as myself. I’m still looking into getting a Macbook pro but I suspect my artist wife will end up using it more than myself, what with the artistic look of Apple machines. I will be cleaning up my PC to prepare it for installing Ubuntu using Wubi in the coming days. I will blog my experience right here.

Science Science, Universe No Comments
I enjoy the science journalism from the guardian, particularly through their podcast. I just looked up this very interesting article written about the effort scientists are putting into determining not only the age of the universe, but also trying to determine an estimate of a time line of the billions of years since its creation. Ignore the comments about religion [these guys waste too much time debating creationism (intelligent design) vs. evolution] and just read what the scientist have got so far. Intriguing stuff. The image you see on the right is ‘the prevailing model of the creation and expansion of spacetime and all that it contains‘ – not directly related to this blog entry, but its interesting and it was suggested by Zementa and i liked that.
