PC World article on Windows 7

Microsoft’s got a winner in Windows 7. I’ve been evaluating the new operating system using an evaluation copy ever since it became available in the summer. Apart from some cosmetic idiosyncrasies (how the heck do you view the directories and files in left a right panes?) and some hardware incompatibilities (my DVD/CD burner is not working), the OS is a marvel of software development – I’m exaggerating here a bit. The traditional problem with Microsoft’s OS of slow boot up is as good as gone!

Travel Writing

I accidentally happened to pick up an accidentally amazing novel called Travel Writing, whipped up around an accident. It’s a very tricky novel – sort of goes in and out of a fictitious accident and travelling and real life and dreams like you wouldn’t believe. A debut novel by Peter Ferry is one of those surprising delights that one can never forget. I almost didn’t pick it up when I passed it by at the library but what a mistake that would’ve been. It started off innocently enough but I was immediately hooked. I am not done with it but I couldn’t wait to share it on the blog. Do check it out.

To Kill A Mockingbird

I just experienced re-reading while listening to Sissy Spacek’s audio rendering of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize winning masterpiece ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’. I’d read the book a long time ago but forgotten the story somewhat. The simultaneous reading/listening experience is my first – almost like a kids’ read-along. The audiobook is very well performed and makes the story even more memorable than it already is. To top it off, I watched the movie based on the novel starring Gregory Peck. This book should not be missed.
